Oiniades is an Acarnanian ancient city of the 5th century, 25 km. west of Μessolonghi, near Katohi village, and is one of the most important archaeological sites οf Etoloakarnania
Built near the mouth of Acheloos river, it was a coast city and one of the Echinades Islands. Rumor has it that the city took its name from the Etolian king Aeneas, while during the Middle Ages it went by the name Trikardokastro, as also called the ruins of the ancient city walls today.
Among the most important findings of the area is the ancient wall, which has survived to date and has 14 gates, along with the theater, which has an audience seating capacity of 3,000 persons and where the Festival of Ancient Theatre at Oiniades is annually held.
The Byron Society of the Sacred City of Messolonghi was founded in 1991 and has turned into an international Centre for Research and Study of the life and work of Lord Byron. Among others, it aims to highlight the idea of Philhellenism along with the numerous philhellenes sacrificed during the 1821 Greek Revolution.
The Byron Society is housed in the same building where the great Romantic poet Lord Byron grew up. The latter, had developed important activities both in Greece and abroad, such as international conferences, lectures, tributes, musical and theatrical performances and exhibitions. Byron Society provides a rich library, with rare collections of books, open to the public

The Marina is located
in the West part of the sheltered Messolonghi port.
The area is protected from all sides by land and shallow waters.

In the area of the marina there is a dining room, which offers coffee and food, there along with three buildings with toilets and showers, a laundry room with three washing machines and a dryer as well as a super market with a bakery.
